WHAT WE DO

_

The Fostering Champions Independent Living program offers comprehensive life skills training. Sessions are scheduled at various times each month to help develop the competencies needed for a successful transition into adulthood. We have prioritized these key areas to empower youth to reach their full potential.

At Fostering Champions, we are dedicated to bridging the gaps in the foster care system. Through advocacy, resource distribution, and life-skills coaching, we empower foster youth to transition from stability to success.

  • Gainful Employment

Help youth write a resume, apply for jobs, seek career opportunities, improve interview skills, build a professional wardrobe and explore options for short- and long-term employment.

  • Banking

Collaborate with community banks to teach youth about checking and savings accounts, debit cards, credit cards, writing checks, online banking and bill pay.

  • Finances/budgeting

Identify expenses for living independently, income sources, and how to budget to be successful. Youth will learn about savings, purchasing cars, and school or college expenses. Students will set up a budget so they can purchase items needed to live independently while attending the program.

  • Driving

Students will research and identify an outside vendor for driver’s education classes. FCILP will assist with transportation to and from the site if needed. We will also review the DMV driver’s education booklet during in-house class time as needed. (Approval from a guardian, caseworker, or referring agency is required to participate.) Please note that external program costs are separate from FCILP.

  • Cooking

We demonstrate how to develop healthy eating plans and meal preparation across all cultures to embrace diversity in food choices. Our classes focus on more than just food; they take a holistic approach to diet, exercise, and overall wellbeing. Youth will gain hands-on experience in cooking, utilizing coupons, and using EBT or debit cards to make sustainable, healthy food choices.

  • Life Coaching

Life Coaching is available to help youth process their trauma and transform it into a resilient and powerful driving force for success. A certified Life Coach provides these individualized services to each youth.

EMPOWERMENT VIP EXPERIENCES/

SOCIAL EVENTS

_

We provide youth with VIP Experiences and Social Events designed to build a strong sense of identity and community. By partnering with major organizations throughout our community that are committed to giving back, we offer youth unique opportunities they typically would not experience—such as attending Phoenix Suns basketball games or NFL player engagement opportunties.

These events facilitate peer engagement, networking, and cultural diversity workshops, while offering a supportive environment where foster youth and alumni can connect, thrive, and grow through positive mentorship and shared journeys.
